We’re on the cusp of a new decade, so it’s a time for reflection. Also champagne.
What are your resolutions for the new year, writing and otherwise?
Mine include:
- Finish revising my new novel
- Rethink my social media presence
- Publish two new writing guides
- Better carbon offsetting for travel

Better carbon offsetting for travel? Just don’t exhale!
And my New Year’s writing resolution is to make no New Year’s resolutions about writing or anything else!
But seriously, Happy New Year, Nathan, and best of luck with your resolutions, particularly revising your new novel, which we all await with bated breath.

Resolution number one is to improve the quality of my writing. Which means I plan to contact Nathan and others for a professional critique. Peer critiques are fine, but face it, most of us try to be nice and offer little of substance. I put myself in that category-your flying alien ninja story is a unique take on the genre or maybe you could eliminate two or three adverbs in your lead forty word sentence, otherwise great! My second resolution is to increase my output. I enjoy sitting at the computer with a cup of coffee and ideas running through my head, the problem is I often end up writing about 250 words. I plan to shoot for 400-500 words through the first half of 2020 and increase that to 600-800 words per day the second half of the new year. That’s it.

Aloha Nathan,
Your “How to Publish a Book” guide came in the mail last week and I’m so happy to see that it’s self published with lots of details about how to do that! Thanks for your post about the decade, it’s great to look back and see how far you’ve come and to reflect on how much I’ve learned from you.
My goals for this year are:
Definite:
o Self-publish Christmas Romance/Duet
o Participate in NYC Midnight Short Story Challenge
o Attend a conference
o Teach a one day workshop “Jumpstarting your Writing”
Stretch:
o Write a middle grade novel
o Find an agent
o Sell the middle grade novel
Thanks! Have a great New Years!

Good specific goals, unlike mine.

Finish the current thing. And soon. Write the picture book idea. Improve my grammar.
