I’m going to try out a new blog format and return to posting five-ish days a week. Yes I am!
For some reason, whenever I sit down to write a post I usually think long. But blog posts don’t have to be long. Heck, not everyone probably even wants them all to be long.
So I’m going to shoot for posting long-ish posts on Monday and Wednesday, with short-ish posts Tuesday and Thursday. Friday may be a roundup or who knows what else.
We’ll see how this works. In the meantime, auto-tuned Bob Ross! This is one of the best ones ever:

Oh the 80s. The Age of Innocent (Little Clouds).
"Start by believing in here."
Epic. I can't remember if it was a Moses status, but I saw this on FB recently.
And man, I admire your determination, NB. I went for three years without ever missing a full week of blogging, and I just recently had to rest and regroup. You've been killing it a lot longer than that, though, so mad props.
D.G. Hudson says
Sounds excellent to me. The new blogging schedule, that is.
Do whatever you have to do, Nathan. It seems many bloggers are looking for a change-up. As long as the posts are interesting, this blogger/reader will stay around.

Geez Bob Ross. It's been ages since I've seen or heard of him. Now I feel really old.
But yeah to back to blogging regularly! Missed your witticisms! ;p

Awesome!
I keep saying this but I wish you would have nested comments…
Heidi says
Thank you so much for posting that video! Awesome.
Peggy Eddleman says
I loved Bob Ross! I'm sad he died.
Sounds like a great format plan!

Thank you for scheduling in short posts…or I'll never get any of my own writing done with all that I have to read. :}
Carolyn says
Love that man.
Nathan Bransford says
Jaimie-
I wish I did too, as soon as Blogger allows that I'll be there. Switching blog platforms is really tough though, so I go as Blogger goes.

I love that remix! He really was trying to share something he loved!
Connie B. Dowell says
I too tend to go long on my posts. I guess writers just want to write… and write and write. 🙂

Why do people choose blogger over wordpress? I was going to try a wordpress because it seems that commenting is tons easier.
I like short, succint posts. And I LOVE your weekly round-ups and links to other stuff. Really helpful.
Nathan Bransford says
Thanks, Anon@9:17. Unfortunately it's not quite as simple because I have a custom template but I'm going to see what I can do.
anon@9:45 – At the time I think Blogger had some advantages in terms of ease of use and SEO, but I think most new bloggers go with WordPress.

It is your blog. We are your guests. Rather rude of us to say how you re-decorate. 🙂 Like D. G. said, "Do what you feel is right and comfortable for you." It is your cyber-home
A.J. says
Wow. Used to watch Ross as a kid. He'd mesmerize me with his soothing words and seemingly magical paintings. (How did a few brushstrokes suddenly turn into trees and clouds?)
Now, I can see how his words relate to writing too. Every day's a good day when you write! All you've got to do is believe. You're the creator of this world!
Robena Grant says
Loved the Bob Ross video. Thanks.
I'll look forward to whatever format and however many days you want to post. I always enjoy what you have to say even if I don't comment. : )
jonyangorg says
Throw in some Disqus for comments, it's super easy, even with a custom template! Hit me up if you some help. My non-paying job is a Disqus fairy…
Stephen Parrish says
That remix might not be copyrighted, but isn't everything that went into it?
Nathan Bransford says
Stephen-
PBS made the video.

Nathan –
Ah, I didn't know custom templates change things. That makes sense. Thanks for replying. 🙂

"For some reason, whenever I sit down to write a post I usually think long. But blog posts don't have to be long. Heck, not everyone probably even wants them all to be long."
Nathan, there's a saying (or slogan):
It's not how long you make it; it's how you make it long!"
I always look forward to reading what you have to say.

I have tripped over a couple of Bob Ross shows, as I flip through televisioon channels – and I always pause.
I never thought of finding him on Youtube.
I'm going to get my paints now….
Thank you, Nathan,
Patricia

Happy little clouds. Happy trees. Happy accidents.
Thanks.
I love Bob.

I love Bob Ross. What a lovely tribute to him. So soothing and heart-warming. I especially love his 'happy little clouds'. 🙂
So, Yay! I love that you're going back to regular posting – by that I mean, I'll know when you post! The anticipation of a Nathan post is fun. Every Monday, or whatever, I can look forward to a new post, it's part of the fun, looking forward to it. 🙂
But, I have a concern. Daily posting sounds like a lot, even with short posts. I post once weekly, and even that is hard sometimes. And you're so much busier than I am.
I know you've thought this out, but I just wanted to say if the new schedule turns out to be alot, a M/W/F schedule, with a short W post might be easier. Or even Tu/F. That gives people time to comment, too.
Please don't misunderstand! I love your posts! I just want you to support you in finding a pace that works for you.
Carrie Butler says
Bob Ross! Ah, thank you for sharing this, Nathan. You're the best! 🙂

That was a great video. Bon Ross was a great guy. I teach art to children, and a few years ago several of my students told me they first got turned on to art by watching his program. Thanks for sharing this.
