I'm currently reading a slim thriller, THE SILVER BEAR, by Derek Haas.
Up next, RED HOOK ROAD, by Ayelet Waldman.
(I've picked up eight other books at the 90 percent off prices at Borders. I'm going to miss them terribly. RIP BORDERS!! On the other hand I'll probably break down and buy a Nook or Kindle now.)
I'm in the midst of reading Mary Barton by Elizabeth Gaskell and just started Spook Country by William Gibson. As much as I enjoy Victorian literature, there's a lot of book in Mary Barton, so I've been slogging through it (enjoyably) for quite a while. On the other hand, it's hard to put Spook Country. Love William Gibson.
Funny how often people forget that this is an important question. You can't sing if you don't listen to music, you can't swim if you never go near the water, and you can't write unless you read.
I'm just starting China Mieville's The City & The City.
I keep a list of what I've read and my thoughts on each book here.
I made up a list back in April out of lots of other "100 Best Novels" lists. Mostly it's a tool to catch up on those classics I haven't read yet. The full list and reasoning behind it are on my blog:
Just finished On Writing, a Memoir on the Craft by Stephen King. Reading The Wisdom of Father Brown by G. K. Chesterton. Also, WIRED, Analog, and Alfred Hitchcock Mystery Magazine. NMC
I'm crawling through Homage to Catalonia by Orwell. It is interesting but I have a hard time motivating myself to read such dense material after a few hours editing.
I am currently reading The Best American Short Stories of 2010, but I recently read China Mieville's Embassytown–fabulous! I post brief reviews on the right sidebar of my blog: https://janpriddyoregon.blogspot.com
Actually, Jacob Wonderbar. lol It's been a while and I wanted to read it to my 3rd grade class in the coming weeks, so I'm refreshing. I also have the last Succubus novel from Rachelle Mead I'm about to start. 🙂
I finished an excellent literary suspense/thriller, by new to me author, Reverb, Jeri Cafesin. It was one of those books hard to put down. Getting ready to start Freethy's Garden of Secrets and Watching Willow Watts, by English author, Talli Roland.
"Heartbreak Creek" by Kaki Warner. She's an awesome new historical (19th century) adventure/romance writer with Berkley. This is her second series – her first book won the Rita for Best First Book in 2010.
Finished Nemesis by Jo Nesbo. Currently reading Redbreast by Nesbo.Next up Devil's Starby Nesbo. And then anything else he's written. I'm so glad I found this author — Norwegian Noir.
Jenny Gardiner's "Slim to None" is next on my reading list.
(and thank you Len! Just as when I board a plane I was thinking, "wouldn't it be cool if someone was reading one of my books?" . . . but I didn't expect it at all, so what a nice surprise!)
Just finished Erin Morgenstern's THE NIGHT CIRCUS (lived up to every bit of the hype) and am flitting back and forth between MISS PEREGRINE and Elizabeth Scott's LOVE YOU, HATE YOU, MISS YOU. PEREGRINE is on the iPad and LYHYMY is dead tree. Sissy is now reading THE NIGHT CIRCUS, so when I can pry the iPad away I'm trying to finish PEREGRINE. *sigh* That's what I get for not getting the e-book on Kindle, but I'm waiting for the UK hardcover, which is gorgeous.
