10 year blogoversary!!!

January 30, 2017 by Nathan Bransford 13 Comments

The blog circa 2007

Ten years ago today, after dabbling in Myspace for a bit, I signed up nathanbransford.blogspot.com and threw up this post. I don’t even really know how people found it in the beginning (this was before Twitter was a thing), but then Miss Snark linked to me one day and things started taking off.

And here we are in 2017! Still going!

Here are some stats from the past ten years:

  • 1,679 posts (read them all here!)
  • 27 posts tagged Monkeys
  • 11 people who were finalists in blog contests went on to be published authors (Stuart Neville! Victoria Schwab! Terry DeHart! Michelle Hodkin! Michelle Davidson Argyle! Joshua McCune! Natalie Whipple! Josin L. McQuein! Jeanne Ryan! Peter Cooper! Travis Erwin!)
  • 150,245 comments (AND HOLY COW I’VE READ EVERY SINGLE ONE)
  • 461,455 pageviews on The Publishing Process in GIF Form (top post of all time)
  • 12,565,254 pageviews overall and counting
Some highlights:
  • Be An Agent for a Day
  • The Surprisingly Essential First Page Challenge (reading 664 of these nearly broke me)
  • Confessing I had secretly been writing a novel and had a book deal
  • Announcing that I was leaving publishing (bittersweet!)
  • The 1,000th post, with a giveaway to the 1,000th commenter (this was hilarious to experience in realtime)
Some of you have been with me from the very beginning, through thick and thin, and all I can say is…

THANK YOU.
Thank you. It’s not an exaggeration to say that starting this blog has literally transformed my life. I’ve met some of my best friends through this blog, it started me on a new career path, I’ve learned a ton, and it’s been incredibly fun along the way.
Here’s to ten more years!

Happy blogoversary. Can't believe you missed my epic NCAA Bracket win (UConn!) as one of your key highlights in that 10 years.

Happy blogoversary! I think I've been around for most of that decade. One thing about the next decade: it will probably go by even faster! Time does that.

I think I might be responsible for like 5% of those comments over the years.

Congratulations for the anniversary! Ten years blogging (i.e., successfully blogging, with people reading you and commenting and all that, not just blogging to invisible readers that never comment, yes, I'm looking at you, imaginary readers, you're the WORST!) are nothing to scoff at. I've had many good times reading your blog, and it's a pleasure to know that you'll be blogging more often.

But after seeing all those statistics, I want — no, I *need* to know how many admiration marks have been written in these 10 years. My bet is one million.

Congratulations! This blog has been so very helpful for me through the years. I feel like I have been around since somewhat near the beginning. And now I feel old. Maybe 10 years means a new profile pic! Also with orange shirt? And maybe cat ears.

I hope the world is here in 10 years for more Nathan Bransford blogging!

I've read every word of every post. I remember when Miss Snark pointed her readers in your direction and you got flooded with traffic. I miss her, and I miss you blogging as often as you used to. I "won" one of your contests, a book title contest (comedy category), with How to Finish a Sentence: For People Who, and went on to get a book deal. So your glory reaches higher heights than you know.

Happy Anniversary from one of your loyal fans.

Happy blogiversary! I don't comment often, but I've been an avid reader since (almost) the beginning. Here's to another fantastic 10 years!

Happy blogiversary! Great word that… Has it really been 10 years? But I wasn't here at the beginning. Near the beginning, though. Loved all your posts and learnt so much. Thanks, Nathan, for so much reading enjoyment.
