JWFWSHE Update

August 12, 2011 by Nathan Bransford

Hello! Happy Friday.

I’m hard at work reading the hilarious entries of the Jacob Wonderbar Funny Writing Contest Spectacular Happening Event, and as such I’m a little behind on This Week in Books. Sorry!

But! There will be a This Week in Books either later tonight or tomorrow, and I’m hoping to announce contest finalists on Monday.

Busy busy!

In the meantime: cute baby raccoon!!

Well… you've only got about 80,000 words to read.

    Good luck.

    That…raccoon…is…ADORABLE! Awwwww!

Good luck reading all those entries!

And have I mentioned how cute that raccoon was? Yes? Oh. Okay, then.

Pft. Who needs contest winners when we can have baby raccoons? Not this chick.

    Love their little hand/paws.

Baby anything is usually cute. Big raccoons on the other hand. . . Nuisance with a capital N.

That said, it's a good way to distract us.

It's so nice to see someone who appreciates raccoons. My neighbors don't.

Interestingly, I'm getting one of those squiggly red lines under "raccoons," but not under "raccoon". Is there a special way of spelling the plural of "raccoon" that I don't know about?

Hey, Nathan, do you have to take lots of breaks to stop yourself from becoming numbed by all the entries? Does funny stop being funny for you after a while? I know it's that way for me, but I'm wondering if that's everyone else's experience, as well.

awww. Sleepy baby animals are so cute. Baby raccoon reminds me of my puppy when she's sleepy…especially pawing the eyes. Love that. It's amazing how human they are! And I love its little hands – somehow I thought they'd be more "claws" and less "paws."

Ah, Nathan, if you had your own garden and chickens, you'd not find raccoons quite so cute. 😉

Happy Friday to you too, Nathan, and a Merry Weekend!

    You're right, Darley! 242 x 350 = 84,700 words. Yikes! A novel length.

Ishta, Word is a singular word processor. It dislikes plurality.

J.T. Shea: Is Word inside Blogger?

    O.o

That boggles my mind. What else has the plurality-disliking Word behind its mechanisms?

A raccoon once got in the way of me completing my laundry.

Blogger has a spellchecker, Ishta? Not on my computer. But I think my computer is haunted, so take no notice.

I use Open Office Writer and sometimes Microsoft Works Word Processor. Neither of them flags 'raccoons' but they do flag the plurals of other words. So, sorry, Mr. Gates, but I still hate you!

And Holly Vance, yes, raccoons do indeed have a lot to answer for. Particularly if there's more than one.

A PLURALITY OF RACCOONS would be a good name for a 'literary' novel, which of course would deal with everything under the sun, except raccoons…
