The One Thousandth Post Giveaway

September 21, 2010 by Nathan Bransford 1,235 Comments

One thousand! One grand! 1,000! 1k! A G! M in roman numerals!

Facts about the number 1,000:

– The year 1,000 started on a Monday on the Julian calendar
– The ancient Egyptians represented the number 1,000 as a lotus flower
– The 1,000th richest person in the world is worth just over a billion dollars.
– 1,000 years from now we may finally have flying cars no for real this time.

Also:

This here is the one thousandth post on this blog! And there’s only one thing to say, which is THANK YOU VERY MUCH SERIOUSLY THANK YOU for reading, for commenting (I have read all 110,575 comments), and making this whole blogging thing so much fun for me.

And in honor of the thousandth post, I thought I’d give ONE THOUSAND QUERY CRITIQUES FOR COMMENTERS! Oh. Wait. Got that reversed.

Let’s try that again:

THE ONE THOUSANDTH COMMENTER ON THIS POST GETS A QUERY PLUS FIRST FIVE PAGES CRITIQUE! Which can be done over e-mail at the commenter’s convenience.

Will we get to 1,000 comments? Well, I’m not sure…. But then again, I didn’t ever think I’d get to 1,000 posts either.

Thanks again everyone! Looking forward to 1,000 more.

And of course… I miss it by one hundred and fifty-three comments. But you know what? I'm okay with that. Because I come here to read your blog, not to win prizes. I love your blog and if I can confess…… I MIGHT get DTs on the weekends when there are no postings. I could stop if I wanted to. No really. *starts twitching* I don't have a problem. I don't.

    *twitch twitch*

Be right back. Must go to the forums.

Lol. JT, are you slowly reading through all the comments and commenting on them? 🙂

Now, I'm having to work late to make up the time. All your fault, Nathan.

    Let's do this every day.

Porter Anderson beat me to the coke quote. And I've commented after myself twice. Which is nature's way of telling me to shut up!

Kudos to the person that goes through and reads all 1000 comments.

By the way, the deluge of comments seems to be a perfect example of saying little with lots of words. (On purpose though, so it's okay.)

Though we're long done, I have to comment on the Luke Wilson thing. I just made a new friend and s'one told him he looked like a combo of Mellencamp and Jack Johnson and I wanted to say, "No, Nathan Bransford but knew he wouldn't (not a writer) get the reference and realized the guy looks almost dead-on like Luke Wilson. So my vote for Nathan's doppelganger: clearly Luke. Now I'm gonna go pretend I'm a writer. Thanks for the comic relief, guys. NickB

I have absolutely NO intention of reading the preceding 1177 comments, but I thought I'd add mine to the number just for fun anyway.

So, how many comments will we get here? And, has anyone contacted the Guinness people yet? (j/k)

Wow, I get the email an hour ago and already there are nearly 2,000 comments! I'm suitably impressed (except for the quality of the comments…come ON, guys!)

    I'll say my bit anyway.

Nathan, I've been reading your blog for just over 2 months now, and I have to say pretty much everything I've learned about the publishing industry, successful queries, even how to write synopses, is thanks to you. So, thanks to you! Good to hear you have as much fun writing them all as I do reading them.

    And while I'm writing I'll ask a quick question, if I may…

You mentioned sometime that you get queries from "all over the globe". I'm in Australia – are there "rules" about querying internationally? Would I need a green card if I wanted to be published by an American publisher?

Thanks again, keep up the good work,
    Megan
