Blog Tournament Challenge Update #2

March 29, 2009 by Nathan Bransford

With Michigan State’s win, Jody-Feldman is now 18TH out of 5,000,000 in the ESPN overall Tournament Challenge.

Wow.

UPDATE: With North Carolina’s win, Jody is now #12 in the nation. If UConn beats Villanova in the final, as she predicts, SHE WILL WIN THE WHOLE THING AND $10,000.

Also a query critique or book.

Incredibly impressive. And the fact that Carolina looks totally unbeatable to me and I’m getting pummeled in this pool; well, hell, that has to work in your favor, Jody. And I’m sure my hatred of UConn won’t hurt your chances either. Good luck.

Wow. That’s amazing. I wish I knew something about basketball, except that I was on the very first high school cheerleading squad in Spain back in ’73. I should have paid more attention then.

Wow, that’s amazing Jody! I have fingers and toes dutifully crossed for you. I’m interested in knowing, are you a knowledgeable basketball fanatic, or were those more-or-less random picks?

    Go Jody!!
I’m gutted – the challenge was posted when I was in France with
40-odd kids (not 40 odd-kids) and not a Internet Cafe with logging on facility to be found! I could have been heading for a ‘wooden spoon’ consolation prize by now!

    Thanks, everyone.
And Jen, I think I know just enough to be a bit dangerous. Football’s actually my sport, but I’ve been to about 8 college basketball games this year. Still, it takes an awful lot of dumb luck and careful planet alignment to get this many right.

that’s awesome jody. Can I root for you to win AND still want Carolina to win the entire thing? Because, to even consider the possibility of their elimination pains me considerably.

I can only stretch so far, ya know? πŸ™‚

  35. :)Ash says

    March 30, 2009 at 6:35 pm

    Good luck, Jody!

I definitely think UConn is going to make it to the final game (since my Cards aren’t there to stop them… sigh. Louisville is a depressing city to live in at the moment!), and Villanova very well could do it, too!

    Fingers crossed for you!!

Nice job, Jody, lucky or not. I won’t feel bad now if UConn do end up beating Nova. πŸ™‚

And if you do win it, there might even be a book in there somewhere!

Wow, as great as a query crit is, I think that 10,000 bucks would be mighty nice.

  41. pjd says

    March 31, 2009 at 5:13 am

I was already rooting for UConn, so now I’ll be rooting for Villanova to make the finals (and lose). Go Jody-Feldman!

My bracket was toast when Wake went down. OK, it was actually toast when I picked Cal to make the Elite 8 on pure loyalty, but that darn Cleveland State… (though personally I loved seeing that result even though it nuked my bracket).

  42. Jody Feldman says

    March 31, 2009 at 1:22 pm

For all those of you rooting for your favorite team against my pick … no need to be sorry. If my team were still in it, I’d actually be pulling for them even if it meant toppling my bracket. Some things are just worth more.

  43. L.C.McCabe says

    April 2, 2009 at 6:17 pm

Nope, Michigan State is going all the way to victory.

Here’s a couple reasons why they are going to be more pumped than UConn, Villanova or UNC.

    1) Home. Court. Advantage.

The games are going to be played in Detroit. The fans are going to be rabidly behind the Spartans.

If you’ve ever been to a rock concert in Detroit, you know. We don’t do golf claps.

    2) On Monday night, Earvin “Magic” Johnson and Larry Bird are going to be there for a special ceremony. They’ll be marking the 30th Anniversary of their famous NCAA Finals game where Michigan State University beat the undefeated Indiana State University. That game is still the all time ratings champ of all time for NCAA Finals.

The Spartans will want to be the ones to take that game ball from their Magic Johnson. They want that legacy to go to them and no one else.

I will be watching my alma mater on Saturday (and :fingers crossed so I don’t jinx anything: on Monday) and cheering my heart out.

    GO GREEN! GO WHITE!
