RIP Vonnegut

April 12, 2007 by Nathan Bransford 4 Comments

As I’m sure you’ve heard by now, Kurt Vonnegut passed away. The Times obit is here. I read SLAUGHTERHOUSE FIVE when I was in high school, and it was one of the most influential books that sent me on a path to book publishing, so I was very sad to see news his passing.

A tremendous loss indeed. May he rest in peace.

Vonnegot was my introduction to science fiction and probably my introduction to writing. His books certainly made me think about the author and the decisions made whilst writing. What to cut and what to leave in….

I may never have found my own answers but it was Breakfast of the Champions that made me realise the questions even existed.

My introduction to Vonnegut was Cat’s Cradle. I devoured every single one of his books after I finished that very first. This is truly a sad day.
